About McKenzie Gorman

I am a science-driven emerging sustainability professional and LEED Green Associate with experience in GIS, ESG, and climate-focused research. I graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and also hold the Webers Honors College minor in Interdisciplinary Studies. My work has spanned climate risk modeling, communication across technical and non-technical environments, sustainability impact tracking, and urban and environmental planning across public, private, and non-profit projects.

I have technical experience with Excel, ArcGIS Pro, Python, and R-Studio, and I am familiar with key sustainability frameworks including the GHG Protocol, SBTi, and the LEED rating system. I am seeking opportunities at the intersection of data, sustainability, and the energy transition, where I can apply analytical tools to solve real-world environmental challenges.

Thank you for visiting, and I hope you enjoy!

Professional Experience/Internships

Environmental Defense Fund - Climate Resilience Intern

Environmental Defense Fund - Climate Resilience Intern

Environmental Defense Fund - Climate Resilience Intern

Modeled building-level flood risk exposure across large scales to support climate resilience planning.

Worked with large-scale geospatial datasets using ArcGIS Pro, Python, and R-Studio to quantify population and infrastructure at risk to coastal, fluvial, and pluvial flooding. Developed automated workflows, data pipelines, and Machine Learning to transform raw spatial data into actionable insights for policy-makers.

Seed Consulting Group - Sustainability Consultant

Environmental Defense Fund - Climate Resilience Intern

Environmental Defense Fund - Climate Resilience Intern

Developed a sustainability reporting tool to quantify environmental impact and support streamlined reporting.
Built an automated Excel dashboard to track and visualize key impact metrics including total plastic recycled, GHG emissions avoided, energy savings, carbon sequestration, and more using EPA emission factors. Designed pivot tables, KPI cards, and time-based trend analyses to enable increased understanding of waste diversion rates and client reporting aligned with Scope 3 Category 12.

View Project

City of San Diego - Management (Stormwater & GIS) Intern

Analyzed infrastructure and environmental datasets to improve stormwater and irrigation planning.
Used as-built maps and GIS to digitize stormwater assets and park irrigation systems. Supported data organization, mapping, and maintenance efforts to help optimize resource efficiency and improve environmental performance.

Genesta Property Nordic - ESG Research & Writing Intern

Delivered ESG research and communication to support sustainability strategy across a real estate portfolio.
Authored 5 ESG articles covering EU Taxonomy alignment, solar PV implementation, and GHG inventory development (GHG Protocol, SBTi). Conducted research on Scope 1–3 reporting, internal carbon pricing, and thermal energy storage solutions, presenting findings to executive leadership.

Research Assistant at SDSU

Analyzed the environmental impacts of lithium extraction through a watershed-scale water budget assessment.
Used OpenET data and Excel to quantify evapotranspiration and groundwater dynamics at the Silver Peak mine, identifying a significant difference in ET compared to the surrounding basin. Worked to expand the analysis to the full watershed using ArcGIS Pro to delineate boundaries and estimate regional water use.

Complemented technical analysis with research on lithium supply chains and carbon impacts, connecting raw material extraction to broader implications for battery production and the energy transition.
